John joined Viking in 2025 to assist in launching the new Washington DC office. John brings 38 years of experience to the position, spanning from the military as a Navy pilot to 17 years a business owner himself.
John started his career after earning a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate NY. His first 10yrs were on active duty in the Navy flying throughout Asia, the Middle East, and the United States. After leaving the military, John worked in the high-tech world for a semiconductor company, a telecommunications company and logistics company, before deciding to start his own business. During his 17 year entrepreneurial career, John purchased and sold several small businesses before finally selling his core business to a private equity company in 2022.
John’s experience owning and operating a small business, as well as selling and buying several small businesses give him first-hand perspective in assisting other business owners as they consider their own exit strategies. As an entrepreneur in the D.C. market himself, John is uniquely qualified to help prospective sellers and buyers through this journey in this market.
John also spends time volunteering as a mentor for SCORE, a non-profit organization assisting new entrepreneurs and existing entrepreneurs to start and grow their business.
